Geocache Description:

Had thought of putting this one at Donaghmore High Cross, but then I discovered there had been trouble keeping one there before.

I have decided to put it at the nearby church instead.

Cache is a now a magnetic nano tube. Tweezers needed.


1806 - 1807 The original church was built on the present site in the Parish of Lower Donaghmore. The Parish Priest at the time was Fr. W. F. O’Neill, and Fr. J. O’Neill was his curate. 1845 - 1846 The frst church was demolished and the building of the present church was started by Fr. Neal McGuckin. The architect and builder was John Brady of Dungannon. Fr. Neal McGuckin died in August 1845 and Fr. Francis Devlin, the new Parish Priest, completed the construction of the church. It was consecrated by Bishop Crolly of Armagh on 25 October, 1846. 1856 St. Patrick’s Church acquired a bell. 1857 St. Patrick’s Church held its frst mission. 1895 - 1917 The church was extensively refurbished by Canon John J. McCartan (died 1917). The architect was William Hague of Dublin. The renovations included the enlargement of the sanctuary, the installation of the stained glass windows and a heating system. Cardinal Logue administered confrmation in the newly refurbished church in October 1897. 1919 A pipe organ was installed in St. Patrick’s Church. 1961 - 1963 St. Patrick’s Church was refurbished by Canon John Mackle P.P. The Architect was Fr. Austin Eustace C.C. Dungannon. The Contractors were Donnelly, Connolly & Fee, Coalisland. Dr. William Conway, Archbishop of Armagh administered confrmation in the newly refurbished church in May 1964. 1981 St. Patrick’s Church was refurbished. The Architect was Fr. Austin Eustace with input from P & B Gregory Architects, Belfast. The Contractor was Joe McGrath & Sons, Mullaghconnor, Dungannon. 1992 Beatifcation of Fr. Patrick O’Loughran. 2014 - 2015 St. Patrick’s Church was refurbished. The architects were Martin Nugent and Con McKeown of McKeown & Shields, Coalisland and the Contractors were Peter and Rhona Quinn, QMAC Construction, Coolmaghery, Donaghmore. The Church was dedicated on 27 September 2015 by Archbishop Eamon Martin of Armagh. This major refurbishment of St. Patrick’s Church, initiated by Fr. Gerard McAleer, P. P., was part of a development programme of investment in the parish assets. The work was completed to a very high standard, securing the legacy left by our forefathers for future generations
