The meet is on Sunday 18th June 2017 at 13:00 until about 13:30pm depending on the weather, it should also give us plenty of time to get back down the mountain.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the UK. (That’s why we want to go up there!!) Because it is so high the weather conditions can be pretty awful and extremely dangerous to be caught out in, without proper clothing and equipment. Even on a fine summers day (Like we hope it’s going to be) the weather can change in a matter of seconds, meaning all walkers, hikers and climbers should take notice of weather reports, conditions and warnings, and act accordingly. It is always advised that anyone attempting the walk should leave a copy of their plans with relatives and/ or local mountain rescue. In the event that the weather report dictates the impending arrival of storms, a decision may be made to cancel the event based on safety grounds.
It is advised to wear sturdy boots, have plenty of warm clothing, carry emergency blankets or a bivvy bag, with extra layers and clothing. A map and good map reading skills are all but essential.
This mountain has always been on my to do list, even before caching and since we started caching it has been very high on the agenda. But we always find something or somewhere else to go. A small group of us from Durham have finally resolved to climb Ben Nevis and we would love to meet other cachers on the summit of the UK’s highest mountain.
We look forward to meeting on the mountain. Swap TB’s and have a cuppa, Oh and bask in our achievement.
