You’re invited to join us for the fourth event in the Geogathering Series hosted by SimeyBop and Marky1981.
We'll be celebrating geocaching around the world as Signal the Frog® travels to different countries to geocache like a local. No plane ticket required for this one though, and you'll earn yourself the first ever Dönerstag Souvenir just for attending!
Signal’s first stop: Germany, where players will gather to celebrate the 11th annual Dönerstag. Keep reading to learn more!
Where?
The Moorlands, Owler Bar, Baslow Road, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, S17 3BQ.
The venue is easily accessible by road with ample free parking, and for those using public transport, bus number 97 operates via the city centre and Hillsborough. Positioned on the south west corner of Sheffield this should also appeal to those just over the border in Derbyshire .
The location has been selected to comply with Groundspeak's event policies to be a sufficient distance/time from other local events.
When?
Thursday 13th April 2017, 19:00 - 21:00 (or whenever the last of us leave!)
For those unable to make it to events earlier in the day due to other commitments, hopefully this will provide you with an opportunity to pop along and earn yourself a souvenir!
What to expect?
There will be the usual geo-chat and opportunity to swap stories of adventure, of climbing mountains for an elusive geocache, or that pesky magnetic nano on the railings opposite muggle central. A chance to share hints and tips for the mystery cache you just can't quite solve (or so I hope!) and to swap, drop and discover trackables or show off your shiney coin collection too.
Or simply just pop in, say hello, log your attendance and earn yourself a souvenir - it's entirely up to you!
I'll be the one with a log book in front of me (as long as I remember it!), a frog on the table and wearing a purple polo top too (me - not the frog!).
So whether you are an experienced cacher, or totally new to this malarky, local or international, you will be very welcome.
Hope to see you there!
About Dönerstag.
Dönerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time. The tradition caught on!
These special events are held each year on a Thursday. In German, this makes the name “Dönerstag” a pun: The German word for Thursday is “Donnerstag.” Kebab translates to “Döner.”
Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Dönerstag events. The events were held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland.
How to join in.
You’re invited to join in this year’s Dönerstag from wherever you are in the world. Attend and log a geocaching event on April 13, 2017, to earn the souvenir.
