The Lowry House sits at 898 Church Street, in Warsaw. This was the home of local Weaver Samuel Lowry in 1884, until 1888 at which point he moved his weaving business to downtown Peterborough. Lowry is known historically as a weaver. At first, of horse blankets in the early years of his career, and then later on of in-grain (reversible) carpeting woven on a Jacquard loom. The Jacquard loom used by Lowry in Peterborough, is now on display at Lang Pioneer Village Museum, in the Samuel Lowry Weaver Shop and Jacquard Loom Interpretation Centre. In November of 1892, articles in both the Peterborough Examiner and the Canadian Statesman (Bowmanville) tell the tale of a woman jilted in love by Lowry. Find this cache, and read a copy of the article – to see how one young lady dealt with the wrongdoings of local lothario, Samuel Lowry.
