Taybeh is the last remaining all-Christian village in Palestine. There are three churches, a Melkite, an Orthodox and a Catholic Church. The village is situated at 930 meters above sea level.
It had a population of 1452 inhabitants in 2007. Many former residents of Taybeh now live in USA.
Taybeh is known from the Bible under the name Ephraim (Ophrah). Jesus came here together with his disciples after the decision of the Pharisees to kill him.
Taybeh has a brewery and a winery, as well as a large hotel. There are also two Christian schools that are attended by pupils from both Taybeh and other towns and villages in the surroundings.
The cache is situated next to the ruins of Saint George Byzantine Church. Originally this church was built in the 5th century, and in the 12th century the Crusaders built another church attached to the older one. Nearby there are also ruins of a Crusader castle, that fell to Saladin in 1187.
