Geocache Description:

GLW

About 12,500 BP* drainage way referred to as the Ubly Outlet was uncovered in southeast Michigan by the retreating ice margin. This outlet carried water northward from the Erie basin. The resultant lake in the Erie basin was named Glacial Lake Whittlesey. Glacial Lake Whittlesey occupied this area for about 500 years as the ice continued to retreat. When additional drainage outlets opened up the lake became what is now Lake St. Clair, The Detroit River and Lake Erie.
The area is characterized by generally quite flat land with occasional post glacial river cuts, sand bars and eskers.

This geocache is one in a series of twelve geocaches on the old lake bed of the last glacial lake in southeast Michigan. All 12 Geocaches are regular size. The cover of each cache holds a code. Record this code for future use. There will be a BONUS CACHE GC73A2G published in the fall in association with a September 30 "Meet and Greet" Geocache Event. The codes will be used to determine the coordinates of the bonus cache.
*BP = Before Present

This time of year in the woods of South Eastern Michigan there is poison ivy, ticks and mosquitoes a plenty! Due to the changing seasons in Michigan, the D/T may vary at different times of the year.

You must physically sign the log to claim the find so, BRING YOUR OWN PEN. Failure to do so may result in the deletion of your log. We do check occasionally.
