"Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." ~Ferris Bueller
Just past Olancha, CA is a little town called Cartago. It's currently the home for under a hundred people but in it's hey day it was the main stop for barges crossing the Owens Lake bringing bullion bars from the Cerro Gordo mines. I have driven past this historical marker millions of times and decided to listen to Ferris Bueller and make the stop to read about it. Take a moment from driving and enjoy the view and read a little about the history here. The cache is located near the historical marker. Recent road and highway realignment has changed the area. There is no longer parking at the marker and a new guardrail was installed on Hwy. 395. Southbound and Northbound travelers use caution! Traffic is lighter now on the new "Business route" but still use extreme caution when stopping and merging back into traffic. Just a little further up the road is the "Giant Lemon" and a metal art Tyranasaurus Rex.
