In 1958, the Society first had plans to open a museum in the abandoned Admirality Head Lighthouse which at the time was in great need of repair - fortunately, the State took over its repair and has preserved this historic building to great glory and it now houses a museum of its own. Through many, many generous supporters who donated money, time, building materials, and services, a 7,200 square foot facility was constructed in 1991 for the growing museum. The museum is now located at the foot of the Coupeville Pier on land which once housed a historic hotel dating back to 1870.
