The Hidasi Valley (Hidasi-völgy)
The Hidasi Valley is a romantic valley located in the East Mecsek area.
The pleasant valley with its steep sides used to be a popular tourist destination in the 20th century. The trail led through the middle of the valley, and small wooden bridges aided traffic through the lazy brook. Supposedly its name came from the bridges (Hidas=a place with bridge).
The bridges are long gone, at several places forest replaced the meadow, the trail runs on the side, not on the middle. The forest is neglected, there are many dead logs and broken branches, but there are much fewer tourists. And there is still plenty to see in this peaceful surrounding!

The Csurgó
The main goal of this cache is to call your attention to a natural phenomenon, called Csurgó, a tuff waterfall that is located at about the middle of the valley. The Csurgó was created by a brook, arriving from the hillside. This created a 6 m high wall by depositing tuff (carbonate minerals). Water drips, runs down its mossy rock to reach the creek in the valley. It is a nice spectacle from spring to fall, but probably the most beautiful in the winter, when frozen.

What is Tufa?
Tuff (also called meteogene travertine) is a variety of limestone formed when carbonate minerals precipitate out of ambient temperature water. The formation of tufa can be observed at various spots of the Mecsek.

This is protected natural area! Do no break off any tuff!
