Geocache Description:

BROWNSTONE BATTERY at Inner Froward Point was a strategic placement of guns and search lights keeping an eye out for any Nazi activity.

For the energetic of you walk from Kingswear taking the lower Inner Froward point route which has the bonus of some spectacular views and a very scenic but very up and down route ( about 4 miles return ). For the less energetic walk down the road past the Daymark from the Brownstone car park near Coleton Barton farm but remember you have to walk back up it.

The headline co-ords will take you to the NCI BUILDING where you will find a blue plaque, the registered charity number on this plaque is 11(D)9(A)75.

GUN BASE ONE Explore the base and find the number of fixing bolts still standing on gun base floor =(U)5

INCLINE NOTICE BOARD & GUN BASE TWO Explore the shell incline and gun base two before answering some questions from the information board. The gun range of the guns was (I)2.75km. The shells weighed 9(E)lbs.

SEARCH LIGHT WEST Admire the awesome view plenty of seabirds to watch from here, quite often Gannets and Oystercatchers among others. Check the inside walls and find when 'Bonnie was ere' (O)8/(H)/(T)5

SEARCH LIGHT EAST Admire the awesome view again and gaze out to the Mew stone, Shag stone and Shooter rock. Then tell me the number of rusted wall brackets divided by two = (S). The number of reinforced concrete roof lintels minus the number of openings in the building = (B)

TOTAL OF NUMBERS = 29

The Glory of the Guns

And the Voice of War is heard,

The soldiers of the Allies,

To battlefields do move.

The enemy is silent,

As if waiting for the sun,

Then they hear that awesome sound,

The booming of the Guns.

They shudder in their trenches

Within a gnawing fear,

Of knowing the Battery

Of 1-6-1 is here.

The shells come whilstling all around,

And wreck and break and knock things down,

Creating havoc among the lines

And all that it surrounds.

The enemy has broken In torn and tired dismay,

Those so inclined Get down on knees and pray.

The Allies are victorious,

The enemy is on the run,

Once again they have been beaten

By the Glory of the Guns.
