Since MVA cannot yet confirm a spring cleanup, our CITO efforts will help this stretch of park which extends from Ave. t to Ave. W. Did you know that CITO ( Cache In Trash Out) events have been occurring worldwide since 2002? Thanks for joining other cachers to preserve our environment.
We will meet at the posted coordinates on Sunday, April 23rd from 1:30-3:30 pm With the support of S.A.G.A., you can grab your trash bags, and latex gloves. Any trash we collect will be left by the park sign for city pick up. Note that the event will take place rain, snow or shine! There is lots of on street parking at the stated coordinates.
You might be interested to know that Fred Mendel immigrated to Canada in 1939 to escape Nazis and quickly opened the meat plant, Intercontinental Packers. Why intercontinental? It was linked to another similar plant in Australia. His plant is near the park and operated under its name until purchased by Maple Leaf Packers in the 1990s. Fred Mendel was an avid art collector and contributed both art and finances to the Mendel Art Gallery and Conservatory which opened in 1964. His art donations will live on in the new Remai Modern Art Gallery. His legacy is appreciated decades after his death in 1976.
