In 2017 Geocaching is celebrating geocaching around the world. You're invited to join Signal the Frog as he travels to different countries to geocache like a local. His first stop is Germany on April 13th for Donerstag. Donerstag began in 2007 when German cachers met at kebab shops around the country all at the same time and the tradition stuck. These events are held each year on a Thursday. The German word for Thursday is Donnerstag and kebab translates to Doner. Doner kebabs, made traditionally of roasted meat cooked on a vertical spit, gained popularity in Germany in the 1980s. However, you don't have to be in Germany to enjoy Doner kebabs. Kebabs or kabobs, go by many names, such as shawarma or gyros, and vary from region to region. We will have different types of kebabs for you to enjoy. Please log your Will Attends and list how many people are coming so we can be sure and have enough for everyone. Last year, over 6000 players attended 233 Donerstag events held all over Europe, from Germany and Austria to the United Kingdom and Switzerland. After his stop in Germany, Signal will travel to other countries with rich geocaching traditions to experience the game like a local. Keep an eye out in the future.
