Bear Hill Fire Tower was built in 1966 and is located on the most southern end of the 2000 ft. summit. On a clear day, Killington, Pico and Ascutney peaks are visible to the south; Camel's Hump and Mt. Mansfield to the north; Abraham, Lincoln and Ellen to the west; and New Hampshire's White Mountains to the East. This steel fire tower replaced the original wooden one, built in 1933.

Located in Allis State Park, one of the oldest state parks in Vermont. The park was added to the National Register of Historic Places on March 29, 2002. Allis State Park also offers a .75 miles hike, Bear Hill Nature Trail, which is moderately difficult. The trail traverses a hillside heavily damaged in the January 1998 ice storm and offers beautiful mountain vistas along the path. One unique part of this trail is what is known as The Bear’s Den. It is an outcropping of limestone that contains a shallow cave that was once supposedly an actual bear’s den.

Claim this cache by posting a picture of your visit or by counting the steps on the last flight of stairs leading into the tower. Do not count the floor of the last platform or the floor of the tower. Email us your answer.
