In response to attacks from the Dutch, the Virginia Assembly decided to build at fort at Foure Farthing Pointe. At a cost of 35,000 pounds of tobacco, the shape of the fort was to be a “half moone” which gave the fort its name. Today Town Point Park sits there along with the Peter G Decker Jr. Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center.
