In 1976, the bicentennial was in full swing. Norfolk decided to hold a maritime festival to celebrate. It was a huge success. The party, now called Harbor Fest, is held downtown in the first part of June each year. It features a “Parade of Tall Ships” from around the globe, food, music, and fireworks. It is America’s longest running free maritime festival.
