The Tidewater Tides started in the early 1960s in Portsmouth. By the end of the decade, the team was a farm team for the New York Mets and moved its home to Norfolk’s Met Park. In the 1990’s, the team moved to its new home, Harbor Park. It also changed its name to the more specific, Norfolk Tides. The era also saw the introduction of mascot, Rip Tide. In 2006, the Tides ended their affiliation with the Mets signing a new contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
