Get out and play! That is the current motto of Norfolk’s Department of Recreation, Parks and Open Space (RPOS). They oversee over 100 parks in various sizes, 20+ recreation centers (you can discover their programs in Good Times magazine), recreational sports leagues, a half dozen pools, 8 cemeteries, beaches and over 200,000 trees! They are committed to making the City “green” by expanding the tree canopy and increasing the number of bike trails. RPOS also recently received national recognition for its one of kind NEL (Norfolk Emerging Leader) program which provides the City’s teens with paying jobs for the summer.
