Geocache Description:

My daughter, Tenebricosa1, is an avid birder. Even her geocaching handle is bird based (Tyto tenebricosa is the latin name for the Greater Sooty Owl). Her plan was to have a geocaching party with a "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole" theme, including placing a cache, for her 12th birthday. The planning of the cache took a bit longer than anticipated.....but we finally got it done. We hope you enjoy this cache as much as we had putting it together!

To find this cache, you will have to learn about "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole". Watching the movie is recommended, though reading the books may also help, and there are also online resources. Many different kinds of owls are sighted in Corvallis and surrounding areas. Please hunt during park hours only. Dogs are allowed off leash at GZ but not at the initial coordinates. A great place to learn about owls in Oregon (which may help you find the cache) is www.dfw.state.or.us/species/birds/owls.asp You will NOT find a cache at the starting coordinates, though it is a great place to sit and think about the lives of the main characters in the movie as the species is known to frequent places like it. Sometimes the place is reserved for events, so be courteous when this occurs. The cache is within a quarter mile of the initial coordinates. Final coordinates are at N AB°CD.EFG W HIJ°KL.MNO A. This owl identifies herself as the "Mate to the Lord High Tyto". How many letters in her name? B. In the movie, Boron says that this character, a Great Horned Owl and blacksmith, sharpened the battle claws of the guardians. How many letters in his name? C. Early on, Grimble identifies Gylfie as a ------------- owl. How many letters? D. One of the first characters we meet is the clear hero of the movie. He later learns to fly through the center of the storm. How many letters in his name? E. Kludd, who told of his brother falling out of the nest when he was a hatchling, is a ------------ owl. How many letters? F. The leader of the Pure Ones, AKA "The High Tyto", is called Metal --------. How many letters? G. Title of the nest maid snake, ---------- Plithiver. How many letters? H. How many echidnas in the movie? I. Boron is a Snowy Owl. How many snowy owls do you see in the Great Tree in the movie? J. Digger is a Burrowing Owl. In the movie, he yells at the main character for catching a moth that was "his". Number of Burrowing Owls in the movie plus 1. K. The main character meets a sassy Short Eared Owl at the Great Tree who explains how they train there. Number of letters in the short eared owl's name minus the number of the letters of the organ the owls are instructed to use when flying inside the storm. (This organ is actually mentioned multiple times in the movie.) L. This Great Grey Owl plays the lute and fights against the Pure Ones. How many letters in his name? M. This Screech Owl, who always says "Baggy Wrinkles", coaches the main character to fly into the storm. How many letters in his name? N. The main character has a sister who becomes "moon blinked" but later recovers. How many letters in her name? O. The main character's father is Noctus. He is the first owl you see in the movie as he flies around the title. Noctus' favorite story, according to his son, is "Battle of the --------- Claws". How many letters? This is my first mystery cache. Let me know if you need further help. Enjoy the hunt! ***Congrats to bryshaclay for FTF!!***
