Again the opening and closing dates are unknown as this station is missing off Scoble's list of New Zealand's railway stations, however Merrifield states that it opened in February of 1910, two months after Paru. There is nothing in the news of this station either. I assume it was put in to service the farming community here. Construction of this segment took advantage of a timely drought that dried out the lake, although it did take till the winter of 1910 (6 months after the line was opened) before the embankment was reinforced sufficiently to counter wave action.
Hauwai is either a variety of paua (abalone) or damp. I am guessing it is the later.
The cache is hidden right beside the old station area, but as you can see, aside from the open space, nothing else remains.
