Geocache Description:

A walking tour of Smithfield through the Buffalo Greenway Walking and Biking Trail will share information regarding the history of Smithfield. Please take the time to visit the actual locations for more information.

Brochures for the walking tour will be found the ammo can at the 01 BGW – Masonic Lodge cache.

Most of the caches are large green bison tubes hanging at various heights to protect them from flooding that occurs periodically.  A note on the cache page will alert you to a different type of container.

19 BGW – Myatt-Sanders House:

This is Smithfield’s only house inspired by Second Empire architecture that became popular during the reign of Napoleon III of France. Nathaniel G. Myatt is believed to have had this dwelling built about 1882 for his wife Mary Woodall Myatt. William Marsh Sanders, a prominent merchant and cotton mill owner, purchased the home in 1885. The house’s most distinctive features are its mansard roof, decorative dormer windows, and its entrance and placed at the right rather than in the center.
