20 BGW – Congressman Edward W. Pou’s Law Office Traditional Cache

A walking tour of Smithfield through the Buffalo Greenway Walking and Biking Trail will share information regarding the history of Smithfield. Please take the time to visit the actual locations for more information.

Most of the caches are large green bison tubes hanging at various heights to protect them from flooding that occurs periodically.  A note on the cache page will alert you to a different type of container.

20 BGW – Congressman Edward W. Pou’s Law Office:

Smithfield (later Centenary) Methodist Church has this four-room brick office building constructed in 1905. It served as the office of Congressman Edward W. Pou until his death in 1934. Pou represented North Carolina’s Fourth District in the U.S. House of Representatives, serving as chairman of the Rules Committee during the Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt administrations. He is buried in Riverside Cemetery.
