Life's a Beach #51 - Axmouth (a.k.a. "A Tale of Two Bridges")

Following the recent first anniversary of the excellent Life's a Beach series, I thought that it was time to add another little known beach to the series. Axmouth might not officially have its own beach, but I'm claiming this one for the village. This cache will take you to a few of Axmouth's interesting landmarks, and then on a short walk along a stretch of the world famous South West Coast Path. There are 4 stages for you to gather information and then a short stroll to GZ. The cache is not at the posted co-ordinates which are for stage 1 of the multi-cache. Enjoy your visit to Axmouth Beach!

Stage 1: Axmouth Bridge. This new bridge was built to spare the old bridge the weight of today's traffic.

In what year was the new bridge completed? 199A

Stage 2: The Toll House. This toll house for Axmouth Old Bridge is the oldest surviving concrete house in Britain. PLEASE TAKE CARE CROSSING THE ROAD TO THIS STAGE.

How much was charged in pennies per person? B

How much was charged in pennies per horse and cart? C

Stage 3: Axmouth Old Bridge. This is the oldest concrete bridge in Britain and is also the youngest scheduled Ancient Monument.

What year was this opened? 187D

Stage 4: SWCP sign.

There is a Grid Ref on the sign with 6 numbers. What are these? EF3 899

The final cache can be found at N 50 42.BFA    W 003 03.EDC

Checksum A+B+C+D+E+F = 19

This is a great cache for kids to enjoy as well but please be careful with them around the bridge and harbour
