Dr. Peggy LeMone found that when she counted cricket chirps during a 13 second interval, then added 40, the results closely adhered to the actual air temperature. Are crickets trying to tell us the temperature? Noooo. The male crickets are trying to attract females. But, because they’re cold-blooded, they chirp faster when it’s warmer!
