Great Day For Marching Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

QwikChek: I was at GZ 2 weeks ago and the cache was still there. It is very well hidden in a place where maybe you don't want to feel around where you cannot see your hand.... but I did notice that the area has become a very unsuitable place to expect players to go to and feel comfortable with all the rubbish and excrement around, so archiving sadly. Thanks for all who came along

Geocache Description:

In commemoration when Durban's Voice was heard

This site was home to "Natal Command", a military institution from the pre-WWII era. The military unit became obsolete and was moved to the Drill Hall in 2003. The site was bought by Durban filmmaker - Anand Sing - as a then-planned movie industry site, whereafter all the buildings were demolished. In recognition of its historic value, the main building facade was kept and was to house admin offices, coffee and restaurant facilities. The Command Church was also spared and stands as a desolate building a stone-throw's away from the cache

After the sale, there were a number of court cases revolving around the sale and the site was never developed further. The Natal Command facade is registered as a Heritage Site. Natal Command also played an important part in 1952 during the find of "Old Fourlegs" during which Dr Smith and Miss Courtenay-Lattimer were flown via Natal Command facilitation to collect the Coelacanth which is today displayed in the East London Museum. This was also the site chosen as assembly point for the peaceful march on 06 April 2017 to the Amphitheatre where the crowd was addressed by various speakers in protest to Jacob Zuma's Presidency

While waiting for the masses to start their walk, I was taking some shade and spotted this hide and it was just one of "those" Geo-moments..... there just HAD to be a cache here
