Edge Church sits on one of the main roads from Stroud to Gloucester,
just above the village of Edge. The view from our graveyard over the Severn Vale is one of the finest for miles around. Our church building
was built in 1865 as a chapel of ease, and became a parish church a few years later. We are a village church, as can be seen in our churchyard with many family names of local families on the old gravestones.
Our History
In 1865, towards the end of his career, Samuel Whitfield Daukes built a Chapel of Ease in The Edge village, dedicated to St John the Baptist, comprising chancel, nave, and east porch with small octangular bell-tower, culminating in a short spire decorated with a band of bellflower. Daukes had previously built nearby Harescombe Grange in 1861-64. Most of his church buildings are in the Midlands, though he did undertake work in London and Kent. The large Victorian houses around The Park in Cheltenham are also his work.

The building next to the church used to be the primary school and the next to it was the head teachers house. The cache only has room for a log so please bring your pen
