Greco (Grech in dialetto locale) è un quartiere di Milano posto nell'area nord-orientale della città. Una suggestiva ipotesi ricondurrebbe il nome a uno stanziamento di greci ai tempi di Giulio Cesare, attestato da fonti antiche tuttavia l'idea più accreditata ricava l'origine del nome dalla famiglia Greco, vassalla del monastero di san Simpliciano ed esistita sino al 1147.
Come dieci altri comuni anche Greco, che in sessant'anni dall'unità d'Italia era letteralmente decuplicato passato da duemila a ventimila abitanti, fu annesso definitivamente a Milano nel 1923
In via Bottelli, al posto del vecchio municipio è stata ospitata la scuola elementare "Gianni Rodari" che in questo quartiere organizza due eventi interessanti : LE BOTTELLIADI (Olimpiadi per tutti i ragazzi) e la STRABOTTELLI corsa dedicata sempre ad alunni e genitori intorno al quartiere.. dove troverete la cache.
Vicino alla scuola si trova una targa con la Citazione nei Promessi Sposi. Nel capitolo 33, che descrive il ritorno di Renzo nella Milano colpita dalla pesta, alla ricerca di Lucia, Renzo arriva di sera a Greco, dopo esser passato per Monza, e vi passerà la notte al riparo sotto un portico di una cascina, la Cassina de Pom sopra un mucchio di fieno raccolto. Da qui la mattina muoverà per Milano.
Greco è stata set cinematografico e televisivo per alcune produzioni, ad esempio vicino ai ponti della ferrovia (dove ci sono altre cache UGLY) sono state girate alcune sequenze dei film Romanzo popolare (1974), La piovra 3 (1987) e Sotto il vestito niente 2 (1988).
Presso la chiesa parrocchiale di San Martino in Greco sono state girate alcune scene del telefilm "Don Tonino" con Andrea Roncato e Gigi Sammarchi e di recente nel quartiere anche la sit-com "Benedetti dal Signore" con Ezio Greggio e Enzo Iachetti.
Oltre ad Adriano Celentano (è presente una Mistery in zona), cantante nato in via Gluck nel quartiere di Greco è presente anche Alex Baroni (Milano 22 dicembre 1966-Roma 13 Aprile 2002) è sepolto nel cimitero locale. Alex è particolarmente caro per la colonna sonora di Hercules (Walt Disney) e perchè praticamente aveva la mia stessa identica età.
