Geocache Description:

At 2am on 8th January 1928 at this point outside of the "Bear" public house in Box, now the "Bengal Bear" Ultra Distance runner Arthur Newton lined up to run the 100-miles to London. In doing so he set a new world best for the distance of 14-hours 22-minutes 10-seconds when he crossed the finishing line in Hyde Park. Then following this run he did something quite unforgivable in the eyes of 1920's athletics - he became a professional athlete!!!

As a result, his subsequent achievements and world bests were not entered into the record books including lowering the 100-mile record further and he became effectively persona non-grata in English athletics.

So I am inviting you to uncover some of Arthur Newtons achievements which will lead you to the cache location...

A = The number of times that Arthur Newton won the 54-mile Comrades Marathon in South Africa

BC = Arthur Newton's age when lowering the 100-mile world best for the final time

DEF = The number of miles run by Arthur Newton in 24-hours to set a new World Best

G:HJ = How many hours:minutes did it take Arthur Newton to run from London to Brighton in 1924

K = How many Montreal-Quebec 500-mile 'marathons did Arthur Newton win

The cache can be found on the route taken for the lowering of the 100-mile world best at:

N51 K B.(A + C) (D + H) (J - F) W002 D J.(E + J) (H - C) (E + G - H)
