As a parent, teacher, and grandparent – I have found no greater pleasure in life than READING. Reading aloud to students, children, and now grandchildren provides an opportunity to STOP in your busy life and pick up a book and give time to books. This trail is filled with titles of my favorite children’s books.
FBGT: The Book Thief
by Markus Zusak, 2005. Liesel Meminger steals her first book at the age of nine from her little brother’s grave, and her further thefts punctuate the pivotal points in her life during the Second World War. Her story is narrated by Death, who is burdened, tender, stoic and haunted by humans who can be “so glorious and so ugly.” Zusak’s language is breathtaking, with an image or phrase to savor on every page. A stunning, life-altering book.
