The Flashes are situated within the Northwich Community Woodlands and are popular for a wide range of activities including walking, cycling, running and horse riding as well as with nature lovers.
As well as a wide range of bird species, due to the presence of salt and the lime beds there are many rare and unusual species of insects and plants, mainly down to the site conditions which link back to the industrial heritage of this area.
Extraction of salt on the site caused subsidence, leading to the creation of the flashes we see today.
