A cache placed within the grounds of Belton House, which is now owned by the National Trust. The cache is only accessible during normal opening hours of the gardens. Entry is free for National Trust members but non-members are required to pay an admission fee. Belton House was built using Ancaster stone in the 1680s for Sir John Brownlow. The National Trust took ownership of Belton House in 1984 and bought the surrounding parkland. There are approximately 1300 acres of tree lined avenues, grasslands, lakes, and a stretch of the River Witham within the grounds. Today it has a dual purpose as a haven for wildlife and the Trust's only naturally maintained deer park.
The cache is located in the East Avenue, which is planted with common lime and horse chestnut trees, some were planted as far back as 1650! The ha-ha near the cache is higher than usual to keep the deer from entering the Pleasure Grounds to the sides of Belton House. There is also a great view of Bellmount Tower at the end of the East Avenue, now outside of the boundary fence. The container is not big enough to hold anything besides the logbook so BYOP.
*IMPORTANT NOTE* Please think about having hand sanitiser with you for caching. Also be aware of the opening times of both Belton House grounds and the shops/restaurant.
PLEASE replace the container exactly where and how you find it, using the piece of cammo provided. The cache is there to be out of reach of the deer...
*ALSO* As the grounds are filled with very inquisitive deer who can smell humans/food/sweets from a very long distance away, PLEASE DO NOT PUT FOOD OR SWEETS INSIDE THE CONTAINER! they might try and eat the container which would not be good for them!!
BYOP - if you 'forget/lost/broke' your pen & can't sign the log, just send me a message/email with a description of the container or a photo as proof. I periodically check logs and will delete any that aren't signed and can't provide any proof of actually being there...
