Geocache Description:

I have driven by this pullout off the NF 23 road for the last 20 years wondering why an occasional car or truck would be parked by the old wooden sign.  Two years ago, I satisfied that curiosity by stopping and hiking past the closed gate to the Skokomish river below.   I asked a long time hiker familiar with the Olympics and he identified it as the old Oxbow Campground.

From US 101 turn left onto the Skokomish Valley Road (6 miles north of Shelton and 7 miles south of Hoodsport). Drive on the Skokomish Valley Road from the George Adams Fish Hatchery for about 5 miles to FS Road 23. Turn right onto FS Road 23 and drive a little less than 9 miles (towards Brown Creek Campground) to parking.

The hike from parking is about 1.25 miles. If you proceed a few hundred feet, you'll come to the edge of the oxbow at the river's edge. As I learn about the history, I will add more to the cache page.

Special thanks to 2nutsACKs for coming through with more information about the area. It's great to have family history as part of the background. So this oxbow campground is referred to as Holman Flats back in the day.
