The church

Like many churches this church has grown and changed over many ages, Only the font remains of the original Norman church but what a fine example! As you enter the church you will be greeted by the substantial carved screen running across the church, this probably dates from the 15th century, rather interestingly it is thought that the screeen was removed during the Civil War and hidden nearby in what is now the churchyard. The remains came to light later and were returned to the church in the early 19th century. There has been restoration and you will see the sections with traces of colour are ancient and the darker oak is from 1887. One interesting modern addition to the church is a number of carvings depicting the 14 stations of the cross these can be found all around the church and are something quite unique these date from 1966. There is much more to learn about this church and information pamphlets are available for a small charge inside the church which is open every day.
The Cache
The headline coordinates will bring you to a gate, the number of finials on the left hand gate will give you A
At the top of the steps up to the church head right and you will shortly come across a triptych of Eveas. Surrounding their plot is some interesting metal work topped with a number of right angled triangular decorations. The number of posts topped with STRAIGHT PAIRS of triangles will give you B
Behind you there is a Royal British Legion Memorial which is surrounded by a number of posts linked by chains. The number of chains will give you CD
From here continue around to the right, follow the newly barked path until you turn round to the left onto the grass, follow the path and you will see a war grave to your right. This member of the Wiltshire Regiment died ages 3E (pay attention to the regiment!)
After this you can investigate the graveyard further or you can take the first cut path to the left and continue until the big tree behind the church, under the big tree you will find a distinctive grave with across atop. Turn the third letter of the first name into a numerical value (Z=26) this number will serve as F
Add the numbers into the following formula to calculate the final coordinates :-
N50 21.B(C+F)A W004 05.(D-B)((E-B)+C)(D-C-F)
Now off to the cache, good luck!
