[RO] Mănăstirea se află în vecinătatea comunei Cenad, localitate care în antichitate s-a numit Morisena şi care şi-a păstrat acest nume până târziu în sec. XIII. Numele actual provine de la un oștean localnic numit Chanadinus. Istoricul Vasile Pârvan a presupus că la Morisena era locul unei cetăți dacice. În timpul imperiului roman, la Morisena a fost construit un castru în care a staționat temporar legiunea a XIII-a Gemina. Aici s-a aflat, sub numele de Urbs Morisena, localitatea de reședință a căpeteniei Ahtum. Cenadul a fost un important oraș medieval, distrus de marea invazie tătară din 1241. Mănăstirea Morisena-Cenad a fost înfiinţată în anul 2003, pe locul celei mai vechi aşezări monahale de pe teritoriul ţării noastre, atestată documentar pe la anul 1002 când voievodul Ahtum, proaspăt botezat la Vidin după ritul bizantin, aduce cu sine în Banat, călugări și preoți ortodocși şi poartă hramul Sf. Ioan Botezătorul. La mănăstirea din Cenad a activat Sf. Gerard de Cenad.
[EN] The monastery is located in the vicinity Cenad village which in antiquity was called Morisena and kept that name until later in the XIII century. The current name comes from a local soldier named Chanadinus. The historian Vasile Parvan, presumed that the Morisena was the site of a Dacian fortresses. During the Roman Empire, Morisena was built a fort where temporarily stationed the legion XIII, Gemina. Here it was found under the name of Urbs Morisena, the King Ahtum County seat where.
