Ten years ago Horn229 (then Delaware's most prolific cache place) put three caches in this small New Castle County owned land next to Delaware River.
- The Deer made me do it (GC15MDW) is still going strong.
- No Pandas Here (GC15M76) was a 3 stage true 5 difficulty cache that gave every body fits. (Most of finds were from going with the CO or somebody who had already found it) It was archived in 2016 and the general area is now used for difficult puzzle cache
- Negative Elevation (GC15MDP) with a true 3 terrain difficulty. It was archived in 2016
While in the area getting a new puzzle cache, I considered re-doing Horns cache. His write up said:
"Negative 5 feet was the elevation my GPS gave me for the cache site.
How accurate that was, I dunno, but I do know that the cache was not in water when I placed it, and I did not get wet going to or coming from the cache site. Will you be as lucky?"
I think Horn was wrong and elevation was more like 0 to 1 feet. I would have used Horns exact loacation but it was not quite 0.1 miles from the new puzzle cache. So I had to go further out into the marsh, actually about 30' further than I wanted to go! So if high tide water level counts as zero elevation, this cache is truly negative elevation at GZ. When I placed the cache it was half way between high and low tide and I stayed dry, thanks to some well placed old flotsam and jetsam. Doing it at high tide could be a problem--difference between high and low tide is about 5 feet.
