We call it CITO (Cache In Trash Out®).
In 2017, geocachers around the globe will gather together during the weeks of April 22 - 30 and September 23 – October 1 to pick up trash, remove invasive species, repair trails and more—plus earn a pretty sweet new souvenir.
This "Cache In, Gorse Out" CITO on the 30th April is not your usual rubbish collection, but another way of helping the community.
We will be CLEARING GORSE from an overgrown stretch of Spiers Road Track. Ouch!
See details of the Spiers Road track on the DCC Track Map http://www.dunedin.govt.nz/council-online/webmaps/tracksmap (enter Spiers Road track into the Search field).
Date: Sunday 30 April
Time: 10 am until 11.30 am
Where: Meet at the stile at the end of the gravelled part of Spiers Road, Halfway Bush.
We will be working from the bottom of the track and cutting gorse for 500 m up the Spiers Road track. Of course, you are welcome to arrive later or leave earlier. If you arrive after 10 am, go over the stile and walk up the track (follow the white marker posts) until you find us.
We'll be there rain or shine: check the weather forecast and wear appropriate warm, waterproof and gorse-proof clothing.
Parking: Park by the intersection of Turner St and Spiers Road. There is no parking or turning further up Spiers Road. Walk up the steep gravel road and along to the stile.
Who: All geocachers and friends are welcome.
Even if you aren't able to take a turn dealing to the gorse, we always need supervisors
!
New cachers are especially welcome- you can log a "Will Attend" note to tell us you're coming, or just turn up! It's a great opportunity to make new friends, help keep Dunedin beautiful and also earn a smiley.
Bring: Heavy gardening gloves (suitable for handling gorse).
Loppers and pruning saws (please name these so we know whose they are).
Snacks and drink bottle for yourself.
Be aware: Since we will be using sharp tools, ensure children are closely supervised.
Stay on the track (marked with white posts).
This lower part of the track has farmland on either side, so leave your doggy friend at home.
