Geocache Description:

You can find the box next to the banks of river Rinya, when Rinya flows into oxbow-lake of Dráva. Be careful, because this place is near the Hungary \ Croatia Schengen border and move in Hungarian territory always. The given coordinates are the ones of the 1st station! You should compute the coordinates of the box by using the number "X" that you acquire at the first station.

How to find the X? You find a „geobrick” under ivy leafs at the head of the suspended bridge. You can read a password on the brick. How many letters are written in the password? (Othervise only needed for gc.hu to book the password. ) Let this number be X. Add this number to the false coordinates as it follows: N 45° 59.739’ + 0.0X0’ E 17° 20.230+ 0.0X0’

The beavers disappeared from Hungary because of the ruthless hunting, which were carried on for its meat and fur. The beavers went extinct more than a century ago.

The Hungarian reintroduction programme started in 1996 and was organised by the WWF Hungary. Between 1996 and 2007, two hundred and thirty four individuals were released in some regions of Hungary, among others in the Drava River. 90% of the beavers were originated from Bavaria and the rest came from Austria and Poland. The Bavarian population was the result of a programme, in which 120 individuals were relocated from Russia and Poland into Bavaria between 1966 and 1980. The population of beavers grew there. In Hungary, at the beginning of the reintroduction programme some experts had concerns about the possible conflicts between the beavers and local stakeholders. Because beavers went extinct more than a century ago, there was only speculation about the possible affects on the environment. The beavers may affect the forestry by gnawing and felling trees, and hollows within the dykes may endanger flood prevention. Fortunately no significant damage has been detected; the beavers have only caused small-scale problems on a local level. As a consequence of the cooperation between nature conservation authorities and other stakeholders, these problems seem manageable and most of the land-users are able to accept the presence of the beaver population.
