Milestone #91
Milestones were very important before GPSs and maps being readily available. They were placed every mile from a major reference point to reassure travelers they were travelling in the right direction. They were also used by the Post Office to help calculate postal charges.
During WW2 many were removed becasue they were worried the enemy could use them for navigation - we are lucky this one has survived.
To find the final location get the following information at GZ:
1. How many metal bolts are there on the other side of the stone? = A
2. What is the number on the nearby lamppost? = BC
Checksum of numbers = 11
The cache can be found a short walk away at N50 59. (A-1) (A+B) (C-1) W003 12.(B*3) (C-6) (B*4). The cache is a 450ml camo tub. Suitable footwear maybe required after rain.
The FTF prize is a note from my daughter!
A cache near a milestone. If you wish to set a milestone cache then please contact MarcusMaximi who is keeping track of the numbers. You may have to check on the 'magic' map to make sure that a particular milestone is not a scheduled ancient monument or somesuch.
