Vulcan Park is a popular 14 acre town centre public park situated in the centre of Workington between Vulcan's Lane and Park Lane. The park opened in 1925 as a recreational area for the townspeople and is unique in having been paid for by local people - it was not the gift of an erstwhile benefactor. It is owned by Allerdale Borough Council and has won a Green Flag award in 2009 and 2010.
The area dedicated as a QEII field is in the south-western corner of the park – an area of open space popularly used for informal games of soccer and kick-about. This area is also frequently used for events such as The Cabaret of Dr Caligari and Play Day in 2010.
