John Custis II    1628-1695

Burial: Custis Tombs

 

John, born in the Netherlands, moved to the Eastern Shore in 1649/1650.

He grew wealthy through trade, land speculation, and tobacco planting.

He accumulated over 11,000 acres.

John assembled cargoes of tobacco for shipment to the Dutch Colony.

He also acted as the Virginia agent for merchants from New Netherland

and Rotterdam, as well as New England.

He was buried in a standing position by his request.

 

Daniel Parke Custis   1711 - 1757

Son of John Custis & Frances Park Custis

Burial: Bruton Parish Episcopal Church Cemetery

Williamsburg, VA

 

Daniel married Martha Dandridge on May 10, 1750.

Martha, after Daniel’s death in 1757, married George Washington.
