Geocache Description:

In a hommage to the Telford's lost pub series we decided to take it to Tern Hill, although with there being only the one pub the series will be rather short!

The Stormy Petrel was built in the 1930's and has sadly been demolished over the last couple of weeks.

When we first moved to Tern Hill the Stormy petrel was mostly known for 2 different activities.

The first was the Friday afternoon special where you could pay a little more for your drinks in a special room and be served by a topless barmaid (I don't have any personal proof of this, but the rumours were sound!) I am told being across the road from an army base contributed to the success of this activity!

The second and perhaps more well known was the Thursday night bikers night during the summer months. It was quite the turnout of 400 odd bikers for an evening of chatting and checking out bikes with music and food put on. This we did wander up to a few times and the atmosphere was mostly great although with a few bikers deaths and the inevitable idiot factor there did become more and more police presence. Eventually it ended and not long afterwards the pub was closed in August 2010.

It was bought by some developers at that point but then resold in 2012 to the current owner who applied for planning for a restaurant and retail units which was approved in 2014. Over the years it has been neglected with windows and roof starting to fall in. It was boarded up to help and then security fencing had to be erected with unwanted visitors.

These last couple of weeks there has been a flurry of activity and big machines and the pub is now no more. Just a pile of rubble awaiting the next step for the land.
