A public meeting was held at the town hall on Saturday December 10, 1910. Over 48 people attended to discuss the question of acquiring a sports ground.
It was moved thet the town board take the necessary steps to acquire the only available piece of land left in the heart of the town. This was unanimously carried with utmost enthusiasm.
On the 26th January 1922 the Otane Town Board purchased the 8 acres of land at a cost of £300. The large trees we see today were planted by the school children on Arbour Day of the same year. The original Coronation Pavilion was built for a cost of £190.
The existing sports club rooms were originally the St. Andrews Sunday School Rooms from Waipukurau.
Mr. A Collins donated £35 for the impressive cast iron gates and posts on the 24th October 1912.
