Geocache Description:

This area is known as the “Isle of Wedmore” due to being on a raised ridge in the Somerset Levels.  It is an ideal place for a windmill as it catches the wind from many different directions.

Ashton Windmill is a stone tower mill with a cedar-boarded cap.  The mill was built about 1760 and ceased work in 1927. Restored in the 1950s.

Access to the gated area to look around the outside of the windmill (and to find the geocache) is available all year.

If you would like to look inside the windmill, it is open regularly throughout the summer, thanks to a dedicated team of local volunteers (Sunday afternoons from Easter to September and Wednesday afternoons in July & August). Admission is currently free.

Thank you to the friends of Ashton Windmill and Sedgemoor District Council for permission to place this geocache
