The Country Fire Authority (CFA) is the main firefighting service in Outer Metropolitan Melbourne and the rest of the state of Victoria. The CFA is one of the largest firefighting services in the World.
The state is split up into Regions, Districts then Groups with each division having less brigades in each, however in Metropolitan Melbourne the district is the same as the region. i.e: District 13 = Eastern Metropolitan Region and District 13 is the only district within the Region. Same goes for Districts 8 and 14.
There are Five "Regions", Twenty "Districts" and many Groups throughout the state.
The Regions are: Barwon / South West -Includes Districts 4, 5, 6 & 7 North East -Includes Districts 12, 13, 22, 23 & 24 Northern West -Districts 2, 14, 18 & 20 South East -Includes Districts 8, 9, 10 & 11 West -Includes District 15, 16 & 17 - comprising the Creswick Group where the Newlyn-Dean CFA operates.
CFA has 951 rural fire stations typically housing 2-3 vehicles and brigade equipment. Smaller rural stations include a turn out area, workshop and toilet while larger rural stations also have a meeting room and kitchen.
Please avoid days of total fire ban in deference to CFA volunteers.
