The Celery Farm is in Allendale New Jersey. Very flat trails a very nice walk. Bring the kids and the binoculars. There are may birds to be seen from platforms surrounding the pond. Park here N 41 02.047 W 074 07.633 There is a small dirt parking area right off the road. It will fit about 7-8 cars.
The Celery Farm, a leafy, marshy world where wild birds and animals live untouched by man and machine.
The land was a celery farm in the 1940s that was purchased by the New Jersey Conservation Foundation and then repurchased for the town through New Jersey's Green Acre funding.
The Green Acres purchase was made in 1981 and the initial sixty acres has been increased due to subsequent donations from developers and residents to a total acreage of just over 100.
The Celery Farm was founded in the 1800s by Henry J. Appert, who cultivate onions and celery on land off an area known as Wolf Lake, formerly Indian grounds.
A 1 ¼ mile nature trail with platforms, bridges and boardwalks is available to all visitors who want to hike trails and observe animals in their natural habitat.
Over 225 species of birds have been observed at the Celery Farm including a bald eagle and a peregrine falcon. The site is also home to red fox, muskrats, rabbits squirrels, raccoons, opossum, and an occasional deer. All hunting, fishing, and trapping is forbidden but other than that, the land is open to bird watcher, hikers, and picnickers.
The Celery Farm provides wild birds with three different habitats: woodlands, meadows, and marsh and includes two swampy canals as well as a natural spring-fed pond with a surface area of almost an acre.
The hike to the cache is aprox 1.2 miles round trip. Container is a square rubbermaid with a redish top.
If you auto route to the Cache your GPS may have you park on a side st (Commerce Dr.) Please DO NOT park there access to the cache will have you cutting through private property. PLEASE use the supplied parking co-ordinates. Thanks.
