Let's get together and grab some garbage at Garbage! I'm down here quite often, and there are a group of us who try to pick up trash when we are able, but it seems like a never-ending task. Some days are better than others, but weekend mornings are usually the worst -- with the mess left behind from party people the night before. Let's take an hour and see what we can do.
I will have the log sheet on the tailgate of my gray Toyota Tacoma pickup. Please bring your own gloves and trash pickers plus trash bags or a 5 gallon bucket. There are dumpsters at the north end of the parking lot and trash cans around the lot. Event will run from 0800 to 0900, but feel free to stay as long as you desire. If the waves are good, I'll probably rinse off in the ocean afterwards.
Caution: there are sheer, unstable cliffs and deep ravines in the vicinity of where we will be. While wandering around picking up trash, always be aware of your surroundings and please do not get too close to the edge. People have fallen to their deaths here! Definitely keep an eye on children if you will be bringing them. Dogs are allowed on a leash, but of course pick up their poop.
You can get down to the beach here, but it's not a particularly easy climb. I may bring a rope which makes it a bit more user-friendly. Either way, there should be plenty of trash up top to keep us busy. And while you look for garbage, you can view nearby vegetation restoration projects with abundant wildflowers. I've never seen snakes or ticks here, but it's always wise to keep an eye out for harmful critters.
Note: I believe this is the next-to-last date of CITO week and therefore is probably your last chance to obtain the 2017 CITO souvenir. All you have to do is show up, grab some trash, and log a find. There are also a few traditional and puzzle caches around the area for your seeking / finding enjoyment.
