The SOUTHERN BOOBOOK Owl is a chocolate brown bird with large yellow eyes. It is approximately 25-36cm in size. Its call is a quick falsetto double hoot "boo-book" often repeated. It is the most recognised of the Owl family. They can be heard near GZ in Spring and Summer each year.
The TAWNY FROGMOUTH (pictured) is not an Owl but belongs to the Frogmouth family of birds. It is approximately 35-50cm long. It is a mottled marbled grey and has large round yellow eyes. When roosting it can stretch itself out so it resembles a branch of the tree and makes it difficult to spot them. Its call is a low pulsing "oom-oom-oom-oom". There is a family of Tawny Frogmouths that roost in a number of trees in the nearby streets.
The cache is a small black sistema.. The tracks are not well defined as the constant fall of sticks and leaves conceal them. The trees can affect the GPS signal, but as you get closer the hint will lead you there.
Please be careful not to slip in the leaf litter and as always be aware of slitheries on hot days and in Summer.
