ABOUT THE TRACK
A well maintained and easy to follow track climbs over an old slip, through beech forest and up to the tussock covered, open tops to Rangiwahia Hut (Rangi hut). It could take anywhere between 1-3hrs to reach the hut, depending on your fitness, but 1.5hrs is probably a fair estimate. You can also continue on to complete the Rangiwahia-Deadmans loop, which is estimated at about 7-9hrs to complete.
Alternatively, you could make it a 2 day tramp & stay over night at the hut.
This cache has been placed near a look out, which offers a great excuse to stop & enjoy the views.
It was a wet and overcast day when we placed the cache, and with the tree coverage the co ords my be a little out, but a detailed clue will get you there. Be wary of passing muggles, as you can be seen from the track at GZ. Although you generally will hear them coming first.
The outer container is attached to prevent it from falling out, but you will need to remove the inner one to sign the log. You can un-hook it from a nail, but be sure to put it all back as you found it & securely when your finished.
