Geocache Description:

The cache container is a creepy crawly little guy, which hopefully won't put you off! It is about the size of a film cannister (slightly smaller) so you will need to bring your own pencil to sign the log-book. It is fairly close to the pavement and is wheelchair accessible, however the cache is placed at head-height so if you are in a wheelchair you will need a little help actually retrieving the cache.

Area information: Chipping Barnet is a market town in the London Borough of Barnet, and is one of the highest-lying urban settlements in London. The name Barnet was derived from the Saxon word ‘Bergnet’, meaning ‘little hill’ and led to the alternative name of High Barnet often being used. The cache is placed on Barnet Hill, one of the major hills along the Great North Road, which was a traditional resting place for the 150 stagecoaches which passed through Barnet daily. The hill is lined with Maple and Plane trees, which were planted in 1999 to commemorate the millennium and are known as ‘Lee’s Trees’ as they were inspired by David Lee of the Barnet Society. On a clear day, the cache site offers a great view of part of the London Loop route towards Whetstone (which also has some great caches along it!).

Congratulations to Woodmen2 for FTF!
