The Father of Modern Karate is often attributed to Master Gichin Funakoshi. He was born on November 10, 1868 in Shuri, Okinawa and died April 26, 1957 at the age of 88 in Tokyo, Japan. He was one of the Okinawan karate masters who introduced karate to the Japanese mainland in 1922.
Master Gichin Funakoshi is known to have created a number of sayings and tenets, as shown in this image.

In particular:-
- Put Karate into your everyday life any you will find its subtle secrets + Karate is like boiling water, without heat, it returns to its tepid state + Beginners must master low stances and posture, natural body positions are for advanced students
- Karate is an aid to justice
- It will take your entire life to learn karate, there is no limit
- Misfortune comes out of laziness accidents arise from negligence
- First know yourself then know others + There is no first strike in karate
- The outcome of the battle depends on how you handle weakness and strength
- Spirit comes first, technique second
- Do not think that you have to win, rather that you do not have to lose + Be constantly mindful, diligent, and resourceful, in your pursuit of karatedo
- Always be ready to set your mind free
- First know yourself then know others
- Do not think that karate training is only in the dojo + Karate-do begins with Rei and ends with Rei. (Rei means courtesy / respect)
The most common minimum time frame to become a karate black belt is 5+ years and a common saying is that only 1 in 1000 who start karate will become a black belt.
Hopefully it won't take you 5+ years to become a Geocaching Kara-te Black Belt.
Good luck and please post your experience, rather than a "TFTC"
