Geocache Description:

The Makarora Cemetary is a small cemetary with only a few graves.

This cache is placed near the grave of Albert Clarence Gaudin who drowned in the Wilkin River in 1906.  Albert was the son of George and Annie Gaudin who were some of the early settlers in the Makarora area.  George operated a sawmill up the remote Wilkin River where the family had a vegetable garden and orchard. George and Annie had 6 children who all made the trip to Makarora each day to attend the Makarora School. Their third son, Albert was drowned in the Wilkin River when he was aged 14 years.

You are looking for a small container that holds a log book near Albert's grave.  Please bring your own pen.
